You may post your position in our online Part-Time Jobs Database or you may submit a Job Listing Form. There is no cost for posting. Positions are posted for 30 days at a time. You may re-post if you need to at the end of 30 days.
UNO departments seeking to hire BUDGET student workers should complete the On Campus Job Listing Form and return by fax to (504) 280-6422. Do not send with a cover sheet. If you are seeking Financial Aid Work Study students, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Employers wishing to post full-time positions are asked to do so in the Opportunities Database. Registration in this system will allow you to post positions and access résumés of students and alumni. Please click here for the Opportunities Database Employers Guide or contact Adrienne Mustiful, PhD at 504-280-6225 for more information.
Internships are the best way for students to get experience in a particular field before graduation. If you are new to developing internships, please visit the Developing Internships Page for more information.
Contacting Engineering Majors for Internships
The College of Engineering encourages all students to complete a Cooperative Education experience. The College of Engineering does not award academic credit for internships or Cooperative Education Experiences.
Contacting Business Majors for Internships
The College of Business Administration has a program designed to allow a fast, efficient process for employers seeking interns for credit. The LIFE program allows students who are looking to get an academic credit internship an opportunity to do so through pre-qualified, internship sites. As mentioned earlier, the UNO Counseling and Career Center does not coordinate academic credit for students for internships. We encourage all companies looking to hire business majors for interns to post their position with UNO Counseling and Career Center AND inquire how to become a qualified site through the College of Business Administration LIFE program.
Employers wishing to post internship or co-op positions are asked to do so in the Opportunities Database. Registration in this system will allow you to post positions and access resumes of students.
When developing job postings for UNO students, it's important to consider some important characteristics of our student population. Because local students living off-campus comprise the vast majority of our student population and many, if not most of our students find it necessary to work while attending school, jobs which accommodate academic responsibilities and schedules will be most appealing to our students.
Things Students Typically Consider when Choosing a Part-Time Job
- Is the schedule flexible enough to work with class requirements?
- Where is the job? Is is between work and home? Is it easy to get to after class?
- Is there free parking or parking close enough to walk without paying?
- Does the job stay at the job after a work shift or will I be required to take home work?
- How much does the job pay and can I make more if I work harder or more shifts?
Tips for Employers Developing Part-Time Student Jobs
- Make the job posting as detailed and as explicit as possible so the student will know exactly what they will be asked to do.
- Jobs like "helper" or "guy/girl Friday" are sometimes unappealing if the student will be sitting around most of the time.
- If you are able to offer a few more dollars per hour with a higher level of responsibilities, you are likely to attract more students to the position.
Things to Consider when developing Full-Time and/or Career-Related Positions
- Students seeking full-time positions while in college are usually paying their way through school, so they may need an adjustable schedule
- It is almost impossible for a student to attend only night classes. At some point, they will be required to take a day class.
- Many students will stay with their current employer after graduation if there is a clear, understandable promotion and raise plan in place that rewards the student for graduating.
